Halifax, NS and Waterloo, ON – Volta, a Halifax Startup House, announced today that Iain Klugman, CEO of Communitech, is joining advisory board of Volta.

Under Iain’s leadership, Communitech became one of North America’s leading tech supporting organizations, enabling the growth of more than 1,000 small,  mid-sized and large technology companies. He is the architect of Communitech’s five-year, $107 million digital strategy, which delivered more than $900 million in economic impact in 2012.

He believes passionately in the power of the entrepreneur-driven economy, and its ability to deliver big results for Canada. “I have been following the Atlantic Canadian Startup ecosystem closely over the last several years. Several initiatives have been discussed with me but Volta was the best-aligned with the vision we have here at Communitech – that is, a founders for founders approach to community building.” Said Klugman, who also lived in Halifax for two years while earning his MPA degree at Dalhousie University.

“What you have budding in Halifax is a very vibrant startup scene whose quality is on par, if not better, than a lot of startup scenes I have seen so far in Canada. Now you need to make sure that the momentum keeps going and that the vision does not get diluted. ” added Klugman.

Iain Klugman will be working closely with Volta cofounders Jevon MacDonald and Milan Vrekic to provide strategic advice and help Volta tenant companies access new markets.
