Volta Gear is a program that leverages the resources and expertise of the Emera ideaHUB at Dalhousie University and Volta. It empowers and supports hardware companies developing the next generation of new products.

Companies and teams can access expert-led training sessions, mentors, office hours and workshops covering topics such as design thinking, hardware financing, product development, sales and marketing, supply chain management and much more.

Volta Gear companies can also gain access to incubation space, co-working space, meeting rooms, mentors, experts in residence, and top of the line equipment available at the Emera ideaHUB.

How it Works:

Gear Companies receive access to equipment supports, including the:

  • Mechanical Assembly Room & Machine Shop Expertise: hand and power tools, lathes, mills, CNC machines and more
  • Electrical Building & Testing Room: multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, soldering and desoldering stations, and a voltera circuit board printer
  • 3D Printing Room: a variety of different 3D printers are available with a range of sizes and materials available depending on the specific application and need

Volta Gear companies include those who are actively accessing resources provided through Volta Gear programming. These include but are not limited to Emera ideaHUB Residents and Volta Resident companies who are hardware focused. Depending on the program/event, software based Volta Residents may attend programs provided under the Volta Gear umbrella. BlackWatch.Tech produces innovative safety equipment and is currently developing a few products, including a man-overboard device for fishermen.

ReelData offers remote monitoring technology for the aquaculture industry, allowing fish farms to know the biomass, appetite and welfare of finned fish in real time, without manual intervention.
