Halifax, NS – August 5, 14–Launch36, a startup accelerator, working in conjunction with Volta Labs, a startup house on Spring Garden road, has opened applications for its fifth cohort of startup companies to enter its program. By formally engaging Volta and Planet Hatch in the program, there is increased support for the launch and development of more startups on the East Coast. The deadline for application is September 8.
These community partners, Volta (Halifax, NS) and Planet Hatch (Fredericton, NB) will work together to deliver early stage accelerator programming in their respective locations. “Volta will facilitate this program by providing meaningful mentorship and a physical space with a strong internal community,” states Milan Vrekic, Executive Director at Volta Labs.
“Propel ICT’s Launch36 accelerator program has served as catalyst for many new high growth entrepreneurs, attracting investment and creating jobs,” said Propel ICT Executive Director Trevor MacAusland. With the rapidly maturing startup community in Atlantic Canada, there is a need to evolve our programming to address the needs of both early stage startups and those further along their journey.
The early stage program called “Start Phase” will be 12-weeks in length starting in late-September and will not require any travel by the participants. Sessions will be in the evenings twice a week at both Planet Hatch and Volta. The program will focus on helping founders pick the right co-founder and team; how to perform customer validation using lean startup methodologies and focus on securing early-adopter customers. Meanwhile, Launch36 while continuing to operate a virtual program aimed at later stage startups.
The “Build” phase will be delivered through the Launch36 program and require the startup founder team to travel bi-weekly from across Atlantic Canada and will focus on honing a repeatable model for customer acquisition, strengthening the startup team, and putting in place a framework for scale across people, process and systems. Only startups that are enrolled into the Build phase program will be eligible for BDC’s Convertible Note program.
