Volta launches Virtual Residency program for Atlantic Canadian early-stage tech startups
HALIFAX, NS (Dec. 7, 2021) – Volta’s Residency program will now offer a virtual component for those companies located outside of Halifax or not requiring physical space at a cost of $100 per month, per company. The innovation hub now provides two streams of Residency to choose from, Virtual or In-House, with both offerings providing Atlantic Canadian tech startups access to advisory services, training and resources to grow their business.
The Virtual Residency program will run and operate similarly to Volta’s In-House Resident program; with specific eligibility requirements including: companies having a validated idea, global market potential, a team of full-time Founders, and at least one Founder based in Atlantic Canada – among other requirements.
“The decision to add Virtual Residency as an option for Founders came after successfully delivering virtual programming to our Residents in the midst of the pandemic,” said Volta’s Chief Innovation Officer, Matt Cooper. “Founders and their teams have needed to adapt to the challenges and new realities that COVID-19 has presented for work environments. It’s critical that Volta adapts as well to remain relevant and valuable to the Atlantic Canadian startups that we serve.”
Volta Resident companies have access to more than $50,000 in programs and discounts to help their startup flourish; including expert advisors, support programs, group workshops, Founder-focused events and much more. Those taking part in the In-House stream also receive affordable, fully-equipped office or desk space in the heart of downtown Halifax, with flexible month-to-month leases. Most importantly, Residents become part of a community of Founders that will be their support network as they take on new challenges in scaling their business.
Volta’s Residency program has been in place since Volta was established in 2013. Approximately 50 per cent of Volta Alumni companies are still in business, and aggregately, Volta Residents and Alumni have raised over $170-million in equity financing. Since the program’s inception, there have been eight exits by Alumni companies.
