HALIFAX, NS – Volta, a Halifax-based technology startup house, is looking for a Chief Executive Officer. Working with local firm Venor Search Group, the non-profit has engaged in a search for their first CEO, who will help execute on the many opportunities available to the growing organization.

As the only startup house in Halifax, Volta creates a community of support that startups and entrepreneurs need. The CEO will contribute to the organization’s growing momentum over the past two years.

This is a new role within Volta, which has had current Executive Director Melody Pardoe at its helm for over a year.

Volta’s long-term goals continue to include supporting entrepreneurship in Atlantic Canada and creating a new innovation hub at the old Memorial Library location. These long-term plans for growth mean the time is right to expand their executive team, says Pardoe.

“We’re entering into our next growth stage at Volta,” Pardoe said. “The CEO will primarily work on executing our growth plans and fundraising.”

The CEO will work closely with Pardoe and the Board of Directors to continue Volta’s work as an anchor in the Atlantic Canada ICT community. “We’re pleased with what our team has accomplished so far and we look forward to the expanded opportunities available with the addition of another senior leader to the team,” said Jevon MacDonald, member of the board.

Volta’s vision is to create a place where entrepreneurship is celebrated. Their mission is to develop the best founders in the world, who in turn create world class companies.

Since 2013, Volta’s 37 resident startups and alumni have raised $24.5 million in equity financing. 90 per cent of Volta companies are still in operation. Compilr, an online platform that allows developers to write and learn code on their web browser and Volta alumni, was acquired by a U.S. firm for $20 million.

In addition to developing a strategy that drives growth and goal execution, the CEO will also assist resident founders, build on Volta’s community partnerships, expand its influence in the ICT sector and forge new relationships within the Atlantic Canada business ecosystem. The CEO will also build and maintain long-lasting relationships with Volta stakeholders such as Universities, K-12 school system and Government departments.
