Wavefront Launches Nova Scotia’s First Mobile Device Library

In Partnership with Volta Labs, Wavefront Provides Unprecedented Access to Critical Mobile Testing Resources

June 22, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Wavefront, Canada’s Centre of Excellence for Wireless Commercialization and Research, in partnership with Volta Labs, announces the launch of the first mobile device library in the province of Nova Scotia. The Wavefront Device Library offers the mobile developer community unprecedented access to more than 1,000 of the latest and most widely used devices on the market for testing. The newest mobile device library will based out of Volta Labs’ technology startup house in Halifax.

The Wavefront Device Library at Volta Labs will offer daily device rentals from as little as $5, ranging from the newest tablets such as the iPads and Samsung Note 8.0, to sought after smartphones like the iPhone and Nexus. For the mobile developer community, easy access to devices dramatically reduces purchasing costs, as well as the time required to test applications across multiple platforms and networks.

Halifax-based mobile app developer, Swell Advantage plans to test on a vast array of devices, platforms and networks now available through Wavefront and Volta Labs.

“As a start-up focusing on building mobile applications, the Wavefront device library has been an awesome resource. ” Swell Advantage’s co-founder and CEO, Iaian Archibald explains. “Being able to test our app on multiple devices, right through to being able to do our App Store screen shots on a variety of different sized screens, has saved us time and money. We’re submitting to the iOS App Store knowing our app looks great on any Apple device, and that peace of mind is invaluable to us. ”

“We’re ecstatic to be launching Halifax’s first device library at Volta Labs. There are often financial barriers that developers face when accessing critical testing equipment. Wavefront’s National Device Library is meant to alleviate these costs and accelerate the commercialization opportunities for the local developer community,” states Brad Lowe, Vice President of National Accelerator Operations, Wavefront.

According to Melody Pardoe, Volta Labs’ Executive Director, “The companies we support are building products delivered  through mobile platforms, so there is a need for testing mobile applications on various devices. Our partnership with Wavefront will allow us to provide these companies with easily accessible devices, ultimately improving the quality of their products, minimizing their risks and optimizing their investments. The Device Library is a complimentary addition to the resources we make available to the technology community in Nova Scotia.”

The new Wavefront Device Library will be unveiled on June 22, 2015. As part of the opening promotion, all Wavefront Community Members (FREE to join) will have access to the Halifax location’s devices for free until August 31, 2015.
