With a diverse range of backgrounds and expertise, our team is passionate about building a vibrant startup community in Atlantic Canada and providing the resources and support that entrepreneurs need to thrive.

Amy is Volta’s Senior Events Manager. She manages the planning and logistics of both internal and external events. From an early age, she developed a passion for event planning. She has an appreciation for the positive impact that each event can have on its guests, and she takes pride in being part of a space and team that provides every person who enters it a welcome feeling and unique experience. Amy is a graduate of the Tourism Management program at NSCC Lunenburg Campus, and has organized events and meetings in a managerial role since 2010 at hotels, restaurants and event venues.

Chris is Volta’s Senior Operations Coordinator and joined the team in 2021. He is responsible for general office and facilities management and is the key support person for those visiting Volta. Chris also coordinates external contract work and manages the front desk. Having worked in a number of fields – including wildlife conservation and research, and operations – Chris looks forward to ensuring Volta is a positive, accessible and welcoming place to do business. Chris holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Major in Environmental Science) from Acadia University.

J. Curry, Ecosystem Partnership Manager at Volta, blends financial expertise with tech insight to drive Nova Scotia’s startup growth. With 22 years at ACOA and a CA•IT designation, Curry bridges capital and strategy, forging partnerships that fuel scalable innovation for AI startups in Atlantic Canada.

Jaco is Volta’s Chief Innovation Officer and is responsible for cultivating strong relationships with Volta’s founders while heading up continuous improvement and execution on Volta’s founders first model. Jaco is a multiple time founder and co-founder of businesses in different sectors and more recently held the position of Director of Strategic Commercial Projects at Stellenbosch University where he headed up commercialization of a number of new startup ventures owned by the University. Jaco holds a triple crown accredited Masters of Business Administration with electives in Entrepreneurship and Startup Business from Mannheim University Business School in Germany and Vlerick Business School in Belgium. With his experience as a former professional S & C coach on the ATP world-tour coaching international high performance athletes and being a startup founder, Jaco draws the parallels between the journeys of a high performance athlete and that of a startup founder. His passion is to support entrepreneurs in a meaningful and impactful way through a support philosophy that is built around hands-on support throughout the journey that is relevant, targeted, value adding and being offered in a way that reduces as much friction and risk as possible.

Jessy Gervais is a Senior Innovation Manager at Volta who works one-on-one with early-stage startups, helping them define, plan, and execute their customer acquisition and go-to-market strategies. With several years in software development and business administration, Jessy has contributed to organizations like Copykit as a Full Stack Developer. He also earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Acadia University. Jessy brings a unique technical perspective to the startup ecosystem, emphasizing the value of continuous integration and strategic innovation through comprehensive technological solutions.

Laurie is Volta’s Vice President, Finance + Administration. She has more than 25 years experience working with public and private mining and technology companies, providing financial, corporate, investor relations and administrative services. Laurie served as Treasurer and a Director of the Mining Association of Nova Scotia from 2009-2015 and was a Director of the Mining Society of Nova Scotia from 2010-2012.

Matt is Volta's Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for leading initiatives to directly support Founders and the growth of their companies. Matt has been developing and marketing products for over 20 years, and most recently served as the Director of Product at QRA. He was the Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Swept, an innovative software for commercial cleaning companies. He holds certifications from Pragmatic Product Management, Google Adwords, Google Analytics and Hubspot Inbound Marketing. An alumni of both Propel and 500 Startups, Matt will be leveraging his unique experience in Product, Marketing and Growth Operations to help Startup teams uncover insights and drive growth by building solutions for their customer's most important problems.

Shrilakshmi (Shri) Subramanian is a Growth Coach at Volta. In her role, she supports emerging technology startups with early stage execution challenges through a 1:1 coaching approach. With over 16 years in applied AI and digital transformation, Shri has contributed to organizations like Venture Grade as a General Partner. She also earned dual degrees from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and completed a Master's in Technology Entrepreneurship from Saint Mary's University. Shri brings a unique product development perspective to the startup community, emphasizing the value of go-to-market strategy and operational excellence through innovative technology solutions.
